Hi all,

Sorry for asking a question I once knew the answer to, but the MPE
brain cells are rusty these days.

Can anyone point me to where I can find the meaning of the following
message I get when I try STARTing my 917LX: SA1327 from SUBSYS 110,
info=-1013, subsys 110? I suspect this means I have a problem with my
Time of Day, and maybe a battery needs to be replaced (or at least
hoping its that simple)?

Thanks!

OK I am pretty sure this is a dead battery in my 917's RTC.
Unfortunately reading an earlier list thread ("SYSTEM HALT 7" on
10-10-2007) indicates that the RTC clock battery in NOT replaceable.
Yes Stan, who-ever designed that part of the back-plane was an idiot.
However, this part was also used in several early PC designs and there
are several places on the web that have documented work-arounds:

"Reworking the DS1287 / DS1387 RTC chip" - http://www.mcamafia.de/mcapage0/dsrework.htm

"Dallas DS1287, DS12887 and Compatibles - External Battery Rework
Advice" - http://www.walshcomptech.com/ps2/dallasrework.html

I haven't looked at other solutions, or tried the ones above. Putting
this info here in case some other poor 917 owner gets bitten by the
same HP design short-sightedness.

Here are some photos showing the location of the RTC chip in the 917
in case one wants to attempt the work-arounds.
