Discussion:
VA7100 and Crossroads SA40

We are configuring an SA40 SCSI to fiber switch to allow our 989 to
connect to a VA7100 disk array. Everything seems to be working fine
execept for that fact that we cannot boot from the VA7100. We get a
message "Error returned from boot device driver. STATUS returned from
driver = -4". The INSTALL command worked fine, but we did note a
message "WARNING. Disk not MPE/iX disk." at the start of the INSTALL.

When we run ODE MAPPER the drives are there.

Does anyone have an idea of what may be wrong?

Thanks,

I've never witnessed firsthand any products other than the A5814A SCSI
Fabric Router working as a connectivity solution to bridge the SCSI-FC gap
for the HP e3000. I've heard whispers that there are a number of products
available that work but none of the other manufacturers of those products
have contacted us if they went through their own certification process.

I do remember the HP9000 HP-UX certified a Crossroads device to bridge the
SCSI-FC divide back in 1999-2000 but soon dropped it for a native FC
solution.

The 9000 and 3000 are different beasts and what works on one (9000) is
absolutely no guarantee that it will work on the other (3000). If it did we
wouldn't have two different R&D labs and separate testing and certification
organizations and resources.

Steven,

You can not boot from the VA7100 through the SA40.

Sorry, I have even tried to work with Crossroads on this, to no avail. They did not seem interested in fixing the problem.

I sent plenty of SCSI traces.... I don't think it was a priority for them.

In the configurations I have done, I use a Mod20 for the system volume set.

Steve,

Just a little curious, what version of MPE/iX did you try to with this
setup.
